Stone Statement on Classroom Mandate Proposal

Spencer Stone, Democratic candidate for Alabama State Senate District 16, issued the following statement regarding proposed legislation requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms.

"We shouldn’t be passing laws we already know will end up in court. There is already established Supreme Court precedent on this issue, and any proposal like this would almost certainly face immediate legal challenges."

Stone said proposals like this risk diverting time, attention, and taxpayer dollars away from Alabama classrooms and toward costly and predictable legal battles.

"Alabama’s classrooms should be focused on educating our students, not creating new legal fights for taxpayers to fund. Regardless of where people stand on the issue, we should all be able to agree that our schools need stability, resources, and attention on student outcomes."

Stone emphasized that improving education outcomes requires practical investment, not symbolic policies that introduce uncertainty.

"If we want to support our students and our communities, we should be investing in teachers, classrooms, and opportunities that actually improve education."
