Stone Calls for Transparency After Supreme Court Fast-Tracks Callais Judgment

Spencer Stone, the Democratic nominee for Alabama State Senate District 16, issued the following statement today after the U.S. Supreme Court overnight fast-tracked its judgment in Louisiana v. Callais, eliminating the standard 32-day waiting period and accelerating the path for Alabama's emergency motion to revise its congressional map.

"Voters in Senate District 16 woke up this morning to a system moving on three tracks at once. In Washington, the Supreme Court moved quickly on a major redistricting case — and Alabama's maps could be affected within days. In Montgomery, the special session is moving just as fast, with new election procedures already being filed. Meanwhile, here at home, voters are already filling out absentee ballots for a May 19 primary that hasn't changed."

Stone said the simultaneous activity across three jurisdictions deserves more public scrutiny, not less.

"All of this is happening at once — and very little of it has been explained clearly to the public. When decisions move this fast, transparency matters even more. Voters deserve to know, in plain English, what the lines on their ballot will look like before they vote."

Stone closed by reaffirming that Senate District 16's primary remains on track for May 19.

"Senate District 16's primary remains May 19 on the current lines. My focus is on every voter in this district, every day until then."
